A quick guide to registering a civil partnership

 Civil partnership rights gives lesbian and gay couples the protection, and lets them take on the same responsibilities.

The Civil Partnership Act 2004 came into operation on 5 December 2005 and enabled a same-sex couple to register as civil partners of each other. A civil partnership can be registered in England and Wales in a register office or in approved premises.
